Turning Over the Tables

Oct 15, 2023    Pastor Adam Lewis

There is so much more to your journey than what is seen on the surface. Under the iceberg of your life are the joys, griefs, losses, and dreams that God has asked us to face as we become spiritually mature. Today, we think about our bodies being the temple of the Holy Spirit. As Jesus entered the temple, he turned over the tables of the money changers that were corrupting the relationship between God and his people. Beneath the surface, there are things that are getting in the way of our relationship with God and those are the tables that Jesus wants to turn. What tables does Jesus want to turn in your life?

Group Life Questions:

1. Begin your time having each person share one thing that can be prayed for next week for them, their family, or their work.

2. Read Mark 11:15-18. How has this story sat with you? (if you had heard it before). What is your first thought of Jesus behaving this way?

3. What was going on in the temple at that time that would cause Jesus to turn those tables?

4. What is the hardest part about becoming self-aware of what is beneath the surface of our lives? Why do we have trouble finding our blind spots?

5. Discuss this quote from the sermon: "We trade a transformational journey for a transactional relationship with God."

6. What is one table that Jesus wants to turn over in your life?
