Approaching God's Word

Mar 3, 2024    Pastor Adam Lewis

The best habit we can have all throughout the week is time with our heavenly Father. Today, we look at the benefits of studying God's Word and some practical steps on how to apply it to our lives. The Bible is not meant to just inform us, but to transform us!

Group Life Questions:

1. Talk about your typical week. How much time do you spend doing various tasks compared to the time you spend with Jesus? Talk about barriers that make it difficult for you to spend time in God's word. How can you help one another overcome those barriers?

2. What does the Bible say about itself? How have these verses help you lean on the Word of God in good times and tough times?

- A sword that pierces - Hebrews 4:12

- A light that shines. Psalm 119:105

- A mirror that reveals - James 1:23

- A path to purity - Psalm 119:9

- A defense against temptation - Psalm 119:11

- A truth that lives forever - Isaiah 40:8

3. Have each member of the group select a passage of Scripture. If they are not comfortable with that, then group leaders have some available to suggest.  Apply the following to that particular passage:

- Choose a translation you understand of that passage

- Read slowly and ask questions

- Write down your observations of the passage and pray those observations back to God

- Observe your conversation with God all throughout your study of that passage

- Choose a time, place, and plan to study God's Word regularly

4. End your time in prayer for one another. At the start of your next group time, reflect with one another how your time in the Word has formed your heart since your last meeting.
