Information: WHAT IS ONE THING I'D LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT ME?

I graduated in 1984 from Morro Bay High School in California, and then went to Santa Clara University on a football scholarship. I graduated in 1988 with a BS in Psychology. Not only am I an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, but I am a Credentialed Youth for Christ/Campus Life Director.

HOW WOULD I DESCRIBE MYSELF?

As a Youth Ministry lifer, my ultimate dream is to minister to Youth Pastors as a career, and serve in the church for free. I would describe myself as a man motivated by passion and the desire to finish strong. I am an extrovert who is energized in social situations such as church on Sunday. I am not a details person, and am extremely clumsy, which means I am often breaking and running into things. Just ask my mom.

SOME FUN FACTS ABOUT ME ARE:

I love to hunt big game, and currently apply for tags in 5 western states. I am the head freshman football coach at Mac High. I just finished a book on Youth Ministry and am currently working on getting an agent to help me market it. I am learning to snowboard with my wife Shanna and three boys. Shanna and I are self proclaimed "Coffee Snobs" and a typical date night for us consists of a cup of coffee and an evening searching for great finds at Goodwill!

WHAT I WOULD LIKE EVERYONE TO KNOW ABOUT MY FAMILY:

I have three sons, James, 16, Darby, 14, and Colton, almost 12, and have been married to my beautiful wife Shanna for almost 18 years. Shanna works at Amity High School and Mount Hood Meadows selling lift tickets so that we can snowboard much cheaper than normal. All of my boys love sports, with football as the main sport in the family. Shanna and I love to visit warm, tropical climates, so Oregon is perfect for us! We moved up here from sunny Los Osos, California in 2003, where I served in Youth Ministry from 1989-2003.

WHY DID I BECOME A PASTOR, AND WHAT IS MY MINISTRY EXPERIENCE?

In 1985 I had a near death experience during a routine knee surgery after blowing out my ACL playing fullback for my college football team. During surgery I went into anaphylactic shock and nearly died. From the reaction, my eyes were swollen shut for three days and while in ICU recovering I heard the voice of God for the first time in my life saying "Jim, I want you to make a difference in the lives of teens." I was not living for the Lord and only 19 years old at the time. I began working with autistic and severly learning disabled teenagers through a college volunteer program.

THE MINISTRIES THAT I OVERSEE AT CHURCH ON THE HILL INCLUDE:

Middle School, High School, College/Career and Teen Recovery (Life Hurts God Heals).
