Have you ever thought.....
"Wouldn't it be great if we had a place to give focused time and attention to strugglings kids? A place where we could support and encourage them, pray with them, and teach them skills to cope with their life circumstances? And wouldn't it truly be a dream come true if we could help their parents, too?"
Well Thursday Night Kids is that place!
This coming week we will once again be providing the Thursday Night Kids Program.
The Current Theme we are working through is
Early Recovery-Kids Like Me Curriculum
- I Can Keep Myself Healthy (Psalms 100:3 & 5)
- I Can Be A Good Communicator (Jermiah 29:12-13)
- All My Feelings Are OKAY
- Discovery My Feelings Defenses
- I Can Manage My Anger (Matthew 5:9)
- Learning About Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs (I Corinthians 3:16)
We meet from 6:30 pm-8:20pm our meeting is concurrent with the Thursday Night Adult meetings of Celebrate Recovery and Divorce Care. Although many who attend the Thursday Night Kids do not have parents who attend either of these programs.
In addition to the kids groups we offer a Parent Support Group each week that addresses the same subject matter as what the kids are addressing. We have been doing the Parent Support Groups for about 3.5 yrs and the parents who have attended have told of the helpfulness of the curriculum. Healing together is our goal.

Downstairs Children’s Wing-entry is at the Kids-zone doors
Registration is required we use a “Secure Check in system"-which means kids are captured in a database they and you will have a receipt on your person and will need to match the numbers in order to pick up, in cases of lost receipts you will need to go back to the registration desk prior to pick up
Parents are encouraged to attend Celebrate Recovery in room 112 or to attend the Parents Module Support Group offered by the Thursday Night Kids ministry , while your children are at their program, we also have a very active Divorce Care Group that meets Thursday Night. However you may bring the kids and then leave so long as we have a cell phone we can reach you on. You need to know however this is not childcare and the kids will do much better if you as the adults in their lives are getting help at the same time

You can also check out for yourself the curriculum for Confident Kids program online at http://www.confidentkids.com/ for more information about the program in general
Here is a fairly precise description of each curriculum you will find us using through out the Fall, Winter and Spring:
Confident Kids (CK)provides support groups for hurting children and struggling parents. Kids work together in small groups with their facilitators, while their parents meet nearby, sharing experiences and learning ways to help their child. At home, parent and child work together to reinforce what they are learning in class. There are five units of study offered— each is eight weeks long and each lesson builds on the next. Because of that the kids must be selected for the CK support group and there are specific requirements to have met prior to entry into CK.
Why a Support Group program for Children?…. Because times have changed. The emotional needs of children growing up in America today are greater than ever before. Growing up with divorce, step-parents and step-siblings, drugs and alcohol, gangs, community violence, absent parents—and more—is taking its toll. For this reason we are also offering Kids Like Me, KLM for short and also Tots Like Me, TLM for short, all newcomers to the program will according to their age go completely through these programs prior to moving on to CK Support Groups
KLM (KLM) is a power packed meeting that is especially focused on family’s that are in Early Recovery and or crisis. It is life-skills and behavior intense curriculum. Offering the child a way to survive in healthy behavior patterns. It is Bible based. There is no registration for KLM. The Confident Kids Program overview is a Bible-based support group program that helps families with children ages 4-11 deal with the stresses of living in today’s world. The CK Support Groups run in 8 week sessions and there is a registration process, it is 32 weeks total and it covers the following issues: · Facing My Feelings Kids learn to name and face their feelings · Living in My Family Kids are encouraged to see the family as their main source
Also to understand"there are no perfect families" · Growing Through Changes Kids learn to deal with change
Giving them appropriate behaviors for going through change ` Making Wise Choices Kids learn the difference between wise and unwise choice KLM/TLM is a 13 Week Program that deals with:
-
Very elementary issues of living in a Stress Driven home
-
They will be looking at some specifics like addiction, alcoholism and grief and the feelings associated with those issues
-
In KLM they will also do a 4 week curriculum on Anger Management
-
A 7 Week curriculum called Telling Myself the Truth, which is all about self-talk.
During the Summer Months we take a break from our regular curriculum and we do what we call
EXTREME SUMMER FUN.......
this is a summer filled with extremely fun and challenging events, to help the kids learn that playing is ok and that they can grow and be healthy doing that also.
The Purpose of Thursday Night Kids 1. To teach skills necessary to understand, talk about and cope with difficult circumstances in healthy, positive ways. 2. To encourage kids to talk about their experiences in a loving and safe environment. 3. To build self esteem and a sense of trust with caring adult facilitators. 4. To influence the home environment through a concurrent parent group. 5. To guide children and parents into a relationship with God and help them use prayer and God’s Word as resources in dealing with life circumstances.
