Discovery Zone Mission Statement Feeding the hearts, minds and souls of God’s children.
Discovery Zone Philosophy As an extension of Church on the Hill and as a part of its Family Ministry efforts, our objective is to influence the spiritual, social, physical and cognitive development of children, while encouraging each child’s individual strengths and abilities. We choose to do this by daily providing creative discovery, imaginative play, hands-on-activities, structured activities and opportunities for each child to listen and verbalize. Discovery Zone Values —Safe environment. Children are well-guarded physically, emotionally and spiritually. God’s love determines and directs our efforts for a safe environment. Our facilities/furnishings are clean, in good condition and suitable for children. Effective security measures are in place and our staff is well-trained as to what is right & proper in the child care industry. —A Quality Christian Education. Our education program meets and exceeds state requirements and prepares children for a productive future by developing intellectual and spiritual life characteristics. —Social Development. Interactions with others are monitored and directed so as to aid in developing appropriate peer relationships. —Partnership. An alliance is formed between parents and staff on behalf of the church in order to provide trusted childcare and encourage family health. Discovery Zone Curriculum “Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.” —Proverbs 22:6 We believe that by the age of five most children’s foundation for learning is established. With well educated and trained teachers, we hope to create this foundation through a variety of both child-led and teacher-directed activities that fit each child’s individuality. The following aspects of learning will be supported daily. 1. Cognitively—Activity centers and special themes promote each child’s ability to think and reason. Activity centers help with decision-making, creating one’s own opinions, contemplating possibilities and becoming aware of one’s boundaries. Special themes introduce children to a variety of life aspects. Children will also learn to identify shapes, colors, numbers, letters and words while counting, sorting and discovering patterns and sequences and developing an early reading foundation.
2. Physically—Children will daily be provided with activities that encourage both fine motor and gross motor skills. Basic opportunities consist of eye-hand coordination, building with blocks, puzzles, coloring, climbing, running, dancing, throwing and various tumbling exercises. 3. Socially/Emotionally—We believe it is very important to create a respect of self in each child. Our classroom environment plays a huge roll in this. We strive to ensure each child feels loved, accepted and respected as an individual with strengths and interests, creating a positive self-image. Children will receive positive encouragement in their activities and projects. Each child will be given several opportunities to express emotions through communication and art. Staff will set a godly example for each child by showing them respect, honesty, passion, drive, obedience, imagination and integrity. We also strive to instill in each child the concept of a servant’s heart. Children will be given plenty of opportunities to interact with their classmates and teachers in both group and one-on-one settings. Each child will be encouraged to do something nice for someone else. 4. Spiritually—We hope to broaden each child’s knowledge of God and show each child how accepting and BIG God’s love is. Although there will not be “chapel time” at Discovery Zone, each child will be allowed to pray, will hear stories out of the Bible and will be exposed to various kid-friendly Christian songs. ”Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:5-7 Tuition Infants-PreK: varies depending on age and number of half or full days (call for rates, multiple child discounts apply) Before/After School Care: varies depending on number of half or full days (call for rates, multiple child discounts apply) Grade School Summer Camp: $115/week Fees Registration Fee: $100.00/child/year
