Church on the Hill defines the Parent/Child Dedication as the "parental willingness to partner with God and the Church to raise a child". The scriptural basis for this type of dedication is found in 1 Samuel 1:27-28, "I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of him. So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord." We believe that parents must have an active relationship with Christ in order to provide the necessary elements to enhance their child’s growth—meeting physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. (Proverbs 22:6; Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Ephesians 6:4). We also believe dedication is not a sacrament. It does not make your child a Christian nor get them into Heaven. It does not bring grace or salvation to your child. Salvation comes only through Jesus Christ as each person recognizes his sinfulness and receives forgiveness and eternal life through Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
